The brand new Kingston ley is called DataTraveler HyperX 3.0. and comes as a bombshell. Indeed, we deal with a 3.0 USB key having eight transfer channels. If this doesn’t mean anything to you, let’s say that it is fast, really fast…only if your OC has a 3.0 USB port.
Of course, the DataTraveler HyperX 3.0 remains compatible with your 2.0 USB port, but it will be less faster.
Let’s have a quick look at the design. It is blue and black, with a rubber skin (also on its cap). It is far less imposing (75 x 23 x 16 mm) than the FastKey by LaCie. There is no diode to shiw the data transfer byt – Thank you Kingston – the key is provided with a strap !
About performances
With our CrystalDiskMark benchmark, the key breaks all the records (see the screenshots below) !
Writing: the measuring tests shows 145 MB/s (i.e. more than what was promised by Kingston, our software has not been boosted we promise !) , our gross measuring software (one 12 GB file) shows 82.2 MB/s and our classic protocol (but rough) shows 30,3 MB/s
Reading : the measuring software shows 233 MB/s (same phenomenon than for writing… !?!), ourgross measuring tests (one 12 GB file) shows 99,14 MB/sand our classic (but rough) protocol shows 68.9 MB/s.
Conclusion : a VERY FAST key which corresponds to the pormises made by Kingston.
This key has a five-year guarantee and is compatible with Windows & Mac. The official data sheet is available here.
