Kingston has a new whim : make its USB Flash Drives sexy and simple. Far away from old USB keys such as this one (and even internally speaking, the DataTraveler 160, 100G2 and 101 are quaint compared with this one). After the 108 model we loved, here is the mini star, the DataTraveler 109. The key is available in not less than 7 shades : black, white, grey, blue, pink, green and yellow. It is made up of two plastic parts (shiny and glossy), one of them is white, the other is of another colour, the whole being very fine. There is no cap and no retractable tip. The USB port contact small strips are protected by the two plastic parts, solid enough. The black & white model looks like the frets of a piano.Congratulations to the designer !
That’s all for the nice little speech. Let’s talk about the rest now. It is available in seven shades as I mentioned it, but the fact is, if the black & white model is very easy to find on the internet and in shops, the other colours are quite hard to dig out (we hope it will get better with time). There is no diode to witness the data transfer. Besides, there is no 32 GB or 4 GB models.
Performances are quite low (3 MB/s writing, 13 MB/s reading), which is not unforgivablesince Kingston bets on a very cheap key.
Eventually, the DataTraveler 109 is provided with the « urDrive » software, which we talked about here.
The key has a two-year guarantee and is compatible with Windows, Linux & Mac. The officia lconstructive data sheet is available here.
